MORO ROCK VISITORS CENTER
TASK: DESIGN A VISITORS CENTER FOR MORO ROCK
LOCATION: SEQUIA NATIONAL PARK, CALIFORNIA
YEAR: SEM VII [4TH YEAR]
INDEPENDENT STUDY
Moro Rock Visitor Center addresses the need to educate visitors to Sequoia National Park while
responding to one of its most iconic vistas. The design is oriented to frame the surrounding
landscape and embrace the dense forest beyond, integrating seamlessly with the site through
a foundation of locally sourced stone that recedes into the rocky terrain. Inspired by the
interconnectedness of Sequoia trees through their subterranean fungal networks, the building’s
form reflects natural patterns of communication and growth. A connected lower pavilion and flowing
site plan create an outdoor classroom and seating areas, while the interior engages visitors with
educational models and panels that highlight the conservation of the park’s unique ecosystem.
